Abstract

This invention relates to a power conditioning system for connecting a fuel cell power module (FCPM) to an AC power grid. The power conditioning system comprises a one-stage bi-directional DC/AC inverter and an unregulated DC bus between the inverter and the FCPM. During fuel cell stack start up, FCPM parasitics such as pumps, blowers, compressors, etc. may be powered by the grid via the bidirectional inverter. After the FCPM is at its functional power level, it directly provides the power source for the fuel cell power module parasitics. The system is more efficient than prior arrangements.
