1 Claim. (CI. 36-'43) This invention relates to shoes and more particularly to a removable inner slip sole and attaching means therefor.

It is an object of the present invention to provide a comtortable removable slip sole for the inside of shoes that will protect the feet and shoes from perspiration and will be extremely comfortable in use.

Another object of the present invention is to provide a removable slip sole of the above type having self contained attachment means for securing the removable slip sole in place within the shoe and preventing it from being displaced longitudinally therewithin during use.

Other objects of the invention are to provide an innersole for shoes bearing the above objects in mind which is of simple construction, has a minimum number of parts, is inexpensive to manufacture and efiicient in operation.

For other objects and for a better understanding of the invention, reference may be had to the following detailed description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing, in which:

Figure l is a top plan view of a removable slip sole made in accordance with one form of the present invention;

Figure 2 is a longitudinal cross sectional view taken along line 22 of Figure 1;

Figure 3 is a top plan view of a modified form of construction;

Figure 4 is a transverse cross sectional view taken along line 4--4 of Figure 3; and

Figure 5 is an exploded perspective view, with parts broken away, of a still further modified form of construction.

Referring now more in detail to the drawing, and more particularly to Figures 1 and 2 thereof, a removable slip sole made in accordance with one form of the present invention is shown to include a sheet 11 of sponge-like resilient material that has a heel portion, a sole portion, and a shank portion. As is more clearly shown in Figure 2 of the drawing, a longitudinal slot 12 extends along the shank portion between the heel and sole portions and intermediate the upper and lower surfaces of the sheet. A downwardly opening pocket 13 is associated with the shank portion of this resilient sheet intermediate the length of and communicates with the longitudinal slot 12. An attachment member 15 of substantially non-compressible material which is sufiiciently pliable to conform to the surface contour of the inside of the shoe 19, is inserted within the pocket 13 and has longitudinally outwardly extending tabs 17 that are received within the opposite ends of the longitudinal slot 12. A pair of longitudinally spaced apart holes 18 extending through the upper surface of the sheet 11 communicate with the opposite ends of the longitudinal slot 12 for applying cement to the attachment member tabs 17 to firmly secure the attachment member in place Within the resilient sheet.

In applying this removable slip sole to the inside of a shoe, it is only necessary to apply adhesive to the bottom surface of the attachment member 15 so as to secure it in place at the shank of the shoe 19. It will thus be recognized that all of the parts of the sheet, attachment memher, and shoe are securely fastened together, whereby there can be no slipping movement during use.

2,940,187 Patented June 14, 1960 In Figures 3 and 4 of the drawing, a modified form of construction 20 is shown wherein the removable slip sole includes a resilient sheet 21 having a transversely extending cutout 22 at the shank portion thereof. An attachment member in the form of a tab 23 is secured within this cutout 22 for attachment to the upper surface of the fixed sole portion of the shoe 25.

In Figure 5 of the drawing, a still further modified form of construction 28 is shown wherein the sheet of resilient material 29 forming the removable slip sole has a pair of laterally outwardly opening slots 30 at each side of the shank portion which receive upwardly extending projections 34 of an attachment member 32 that is secured to the upper surface of the fixed sole portion of the shoe 35. A suitable adhesive is similarly applied to the respective parts to secure them together during use.

In each of the aforementioned embodiments, the removable slip sole is provided in particular sizes to fit different size shoes. These removable slip soles may also be supplied in various thicknesses to accommodate all types and styles of shoes, such as providing extra thin removable slip soles for use with high heel dress shoes. Since each of the removable slip soles is firmly secured within the shoe, they are equally as well practical for use with open shoes in view of the fact that they cannot slip during use. The sponge rubber type of surface is extremely comfortable and prevents slippage of the foot during use, which would otherwise blister the ball of the foot, particularly when there is no hose or sox being worn. firmly attaching the removable slip sole in place within the shoe which could supplement the aforementioned adhesive which is for most purposes sufficient. These removable slip soles may be readily removed for washing, whereby the feet and shoes may be kept free of odors.

While various changes may be made in the detail construction, it shall be understood that such changes shall be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as defined by the appended claim.

What I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent of the United States is:

A removable slip sole with attaching means for shoes comprising, a sheet of resilient compressible material cut to fit within a shoe of a particular size and having a heel portion, a sole portion, and an intermediate shank portion, said shank portion including downwardly open receiving slot means symmetrically arranged with respect to the longitudinal axis of said removable slip sole extending across said shank portion between said heel and sole portions, and upwardly directed attachment means fastened at the top within said downwardly open receiving slot means and adapted to be firmly fastened at the bottom to the upper surface of the fixed sole of the shoe, said attachment means including fastening tabs and said slot means extending longitudinally of said sheet and having a central downwardly open pocket for receiving said fastening tabs of said attachment means, said slip sole including perforations and an adhesive securing means in said perforations securing the fastening tabs of said attachment to the slot means and to the underside of the slip sole.
