Abstract

PURPOSE:To realize a low-cost inductor by a method wherein through holes or via holes are respectively provided at the winding start and winding end positions of a printed coil on each layer and the printed coils on the respective layers are connected to each other through the through holes or via holes. CONSTITUTION:Through holes 3, 4 and 6 and a via hole for making an interlayer connection are respectively formed in winding start positions 1-1, 1-3, 1-2 and 1-4 of printed coils on first, third, second and fourth layers and the through holes 4 and 6, a through hole 5 and the via hole are respectively formed similarly in winding end positions 2-2, 2-1, 2-4 and 2-3 of the printed coils on the second, first, fourth and third layers. The printed coil starts winding in the winding start position 1-1 of the printed coil on the first layer, a two-turn pattern is formed clockwise between the winding start position 1-1 and the winding end position 2-1 and the printed coil extends to the second layer through the through hole 6. A two-turn pattern is formed clockwise between the winding start position 1-2 and the winding end position 2-2 of the printed coil on the second layer and the printed coil further extend to the third layer through the through hole 4. Thus the printed coil is formed, ending at the winding end position 2-4 of the printed coil on the fourth layer. Here, the patterns of the printed coils are formed by etching a copper foil.

In the figure, 1-1 to 1-4 are first to fourth
The winding start, 2-1 to 2-4 of the layers of the print coil indicate the same winding end, and 3 to 6 indicate the through holes connecting the layers. The broken line is a line drawn for convenience to show that the through holes are formed on concentric circles. As shown in the figure, in this embodiment, the print coil is started from 1-1 on the first layer, and a pattern of two turns is formed clockwise to 2-1. Then, a pattern of 2 turns clockwise from 1-2 to 2-2 is formed on the second layer, and the through hole 4 is formed.
To reach the third layer. Thereafter, in the same manner, winding of the inductor is finished at 2 on the fourth layer. Here, the pattern of the printed coil is formed by etching a copper foil.

Although the example of two turns in each layer is shown in the drawing, the number of turns is arbitrary. Further, although the winding start and winding end are shown at the position of 180 °, this relationship is also arbitrary,
Therefore, a non-integer number of turns is possible. Further, the connection between layers may be via holes that connect only necessary layers, instead of through holes that penetrate all layers as shown in the drawing.

(Second Embodiment) FIG. 2 is an explanatory diagram of a method of mounting a core of a printed inductor according to a second embodiment of the present invention. This embodiment is an inductor with a core. In this embodiment, a coil pattern (not shown) is formed on the multilayer printed circuit board 11 by etching in the same manner as in the first embodiment, a hole 12 is opened in the center thereof, and a core made of ferrite or the like is formed in the hole 12. Insert and fix with an adhesive. The brim-shaped core 13 and the ring-shaped core 14 may be sandwiched from above and below, or may be composed of only the cylindrical core 15. Further, the shape of the core is not limited to the circular shape shown in the figure, and may be any polygonal shape. A desired inductance can be obtained by appropriately selecting the shape and structure of the core.

As described above in detail, according to the present invention, since the inductor is formed as a pattern on the printed circuit board, the component cost of the inductor is substantially zero if it is an air core. Further, even when a core such as ferrite is used, only the cost of the core and the mounting cost are sufficient, so a low-cost inductor can be provided.

Further, since the shape of the pattern can be arbitrarily selected, it can be formed in a vacant portion on the substrate. Therefore, the substrate can be effectively used.
