Abstract
Description
この出願は、2017年12月1日に提出された米国仮特許出願第62/593,768号および2018年10月3日に提出された米国特許出願16/151,186号の利益および優先権を主張し、本明細書と矛盾しない範囲内でそれらの全てを参照として組み込む。
ここで、Esは構成材料のヤング率であり、r/lはストラットの長さに対する半径の比である。この場合、弾性波速度は、下記の式(2)で近似できる。
ここで、ρは有効格子密度である。r/l=0.2、ρ=1252kg/m3(相対密度60%の炭素オクテットに対応)などの最悪の場合の値と、14μmのサンプル厚を使用すると、弾性波がサンプルを2回通過(つまり、往復)するのに約12nm要する。高速カメラフレームでは、おおよその衝突時間を測定できるため、4nsの平均衝突時間は、基板に関する情報が跳ね返り前に粒子に伝達されないことを意味する。言い換えると、跳ね返り挙動は、基板ではなく、単に格子材料の関数である。これは、図14Bに示されるx−t図に要約されている。
の形式(E*は有効ヤング率、Esは構成材料のヤング率、ρは相対密度(ρはρバー)、aはスケーリング指数)のフィッティングを適用すると、より低い(より望ましい)スピノーダル構造のスケーリング指数を生じる。
ここで、Wは(吸収および/またはリダイレクトされた)絶対エネルギーであり、Aは影響に関連する面積である。このタイプのケブラーシート(面密度ρa,Kev=0.17kg/m2)の1枚の値を使用すると、ΨLat=2.61×104J/m2と比較して、得られた値はΨKev=3.26×104J/m2であった。このメトリックの違いは、主に実験に関連するスケールの違いによるものである。また、ケブラーシートには発射体が穴をあけ、物理的な完全性を失っているが、格子には小さな永久的な変形があり、衝突子によって穴は開けられなかった。
ここで、アルファは定数(2.4×1010)、λはラマン実験で使用されたレーザーの波長(ナノメートル単位)である。この式を使用して、炭素層フラグメントの特徴的な結晶サイズは2.4nmと計算された。これは、HRTEM観察から決定された1.0〜1.5nmのサイズと基本的に一致している。炭素層の結晶サイズの評価では、HRTEM観測はラマンスペクトルに基づく式(1)からの近似予測よりも高い精度を有していることに注意されたい。その後の計算では、HRTEM観察から導き出されたように、カールした炭素層の特徴的な結晶サイズは1.0〜1.5nmと計算された。図33Hに示すように、EELSは、292eVでの1s−σ*ピークおよび285eVでの1s−s*ピークの存在を明らかにしており、これらはsp2混成炭素に特徴的なsおよびπ結合と整合している。sp2結合の割合は、2ウィンドウ法(文献32)を使用し、参照材料として全てsp2のガラス状カーボン原料を採用することによって見積もられた(文献27)。sp2結合の割合は96.5%と高く、これは熱分解炭素マイクロピラーにおけるsp2混成の優位性を示している。この結果は、sp3混成アモルファスカーボンは700℃程度を超えると不安定になるため(文献30)、高温で処理された熱分解炭素材料が主に無秩序なsp2結合を含むという以前の実験的観察と一致している(文献27)。この結果は、これらの結合がグラフェンの層に対応していることも示している。ラマンスペクトルおよびEELSデータに基づく推定と分析の詳細については、後にこの実施例の方法の説明において説明する。上記の微細構造特性は、我々の熱分解炭素がサブナノメートルサイズのボイドが散在したナノメートルサイズのカールしたグラフェンフラグメントのアセンブリであることを明らかにしている。全体として、この特定の繊細な微細構造は、前駆体材料を選択し、印刷されたサンプルの寸法/ジオメトリおよび熱分解条件を制御することによって、設計および作製された。
ここで、σ0およびmは材料パラメータである。この分布により、1.78GPaの特性強度と、3.42の低いワイブル係数mが得られる。これは、破壊強度のばらつきが大きいことを示している。熱分解炭素サンプルの破損強度におけるこの高い変動性は、それらの破損が内部欠陥に起因する可能性が高いことを示唆している。
ここで、Eはヤング率、Γは破壊エネルギーである。文献35に報告されているガラス状カーボンのヤング率E=19.5GPa(全てのサンプルの圧縮実験から得られた平均ヤング率)および破壊エネルギーΓ=29.9〜61.9J/m2を用い、式(2)を用いて初期長さh=100nm〜1μmの分割亀裂のσth=4.0〜13.5GPaの理論限界範囲を計算した。この予測範囲は、実験的に得られた3.8〜11.3GPaの圧縮強度(図35A)に類似しており、直径が2.3μm未満の熱分解炭素ピラーの強度が理論限界に近づいていることを意味している。平均強度を超える強調表示された領域(図35Aにおいて青い破線で示されている)では、マイクロピラーは7.2〜11.3GPaの超高圧縮応力および40%を超える高圧縮歪みに耐えることができる。D<2.3μmのマイクロピラーの圧縮強度の大きな変動は、主に初期分割マイクロクラックhの長さの変動から生じる。D<2.3μmのマイクロピラーの圧縮強度は、平均で0.8〜2.5GPaの対応する引張強度よりも3.5倍高い。この張力−圧縮非対称性は、最近の楕円破壊基準から決定されるように、高強度の共有結合等方性材料で発生する非対称係数2.5〜4.4の理論予測と一致している(文献36)。圧縮および引張実験により、D<2.3μmの熱分解炭素マイクロピラーが高い変形性、すなわち、破壊前の40%を超える圧縮歪みおよび20%程度に引張歪みを示すことが明らかになった。これらのサンプルの繰り返し圧縮実験では、最初のサイクルを超える各サイクル後にほぼ完全な回復が見られた。図35Bは、23%の最大圧縮歪みを伴う、直径1.28μmのマイクロピラーの20サイクルの力−変位データセットを示している。これらのデータは、図35Bの挿入図に示される変形前/変形後のSEM画像と組み合わせて、23%の歪みへの20サイクルの圧縮後に、マイクロピラーがその元の高さの95%回復したことを示している。
び文献28において提案された構造材料の一軸強度の上限に接近している。熱分解炭素マイクロピラーの強度は、炭素マイクロファイバー(文献44)および金ナノワイヤー(Au−NW)(文献10)の強度に匹敵するが、その密度は、それぞれ炭素繊維およびAu−NWの約79%および7.3%である。図47は、形状記憶ジルコニア(文献12)、SU−8複合材料(文献14)、炭素マイクロファイバー(文献44)、GOP(文献41)、Cu−NPs(文献42)、NT−Cu(文献6)、およびZrベースの金属ガラス(MG)(文献45)を含む、様々な材料の強度と破壊歪みの類似した特性プロットを示している。本研究の熱分解炭素マイクロピラーは、高強度と高変形性の優れた組み合わせを示しており、これは、これまでに全ての材料を悩ませてきた強度と変形性との間の古典的なトレードオフを克服することを意味している。熱分解炭素マイクロピラーは、2.5GPaの高い引張強度と11.0GPaの高い圧縮強度とを兼ね備え、1.0〜1.8g/cm3の低密度を有しているため、高強度と低密度との競合が部分的に克服されており、8.07GPa/g・cm3の超高比強度に繋がる。図37Bは、様々な材料の固有の比引張強度および比圧縮比強度を示しており、熱分解炭素マイクロピラーの比強度が、GOP、NT−Cu、およびAu−NWよりも1桁大きく、炭素マイクロファイバーに匹敵することを示している。それらの比圧縮強度は、一般的な硬質セラミック(文献46)(B4C、SiC、およびAl2O3など)、金属ナノピラー(Cu−NPs(文献42)およびAu−NPs(文献43))、および炭素材料(PyCs(文献25、26、39)、グラファイト、およびC/C(文献40))の中のこれまでで最高の比圧縮強度(文献28)を有するダイヤモンドのそれを超えている。図37Cは、熱分解炭素、およびチタン合金、マグネシウム合金、炭素繊維強化ポリマー(CFRP)およびダイヤモンドを含む、その他の様々な材料の比強度対破壊歪みのアシュビープロットを示している。特に、我々の熱分解炭素は、他の物質が到達しないアシュビー図の未踏のスペースを占めている。我々の実験およびシミュレーションにより、熱分解炭素マイクロピラーは、高い変形能、超大弾性限界、および超高強度と比強度の固有の組み合わせを示すことが明らかとなった。熱分解炭素マイクロピラーのこれらの優れた機械的特性は、その微細構造と構成材料から生じる。基本的なビルディングブロックとして、1nmサイズのカールグラフェン層は、高い強度と同様に、高い面内剛性と面外柔軟性とを備えている。これらのグラフェン層の密集したアセンブリは、共有結合またはファンデルワールス相互作用によって熱分解炭素マイクロピラーを形成する。その結果、熱分解炭素マイクロピラーは大きな弾性変形を維持し、大きな圧縮と伸張に対抗できる。これらの結果は、ナノメートルサイズのカールグラフェンフラグメントを高性能炭素材料に組み立てる新しい設計ルートを提供する。
ここで、θは典型的なユニットセル内の2つのグラフェン層間の配向角度であり(図41c)であり、θ=45°は等方性熱分解炭素(文献26)に対応し、湾曲したグラフェン層がランダムに分布する。TEM観察(図33E〜33F)に基づいて、我々はβ=1またはπ/2、θ=π/4、Ls=0.4nm、およびL=1.0〜1.5nmを得た。これらのパラメータを式(1)および(2)に代入することにより。ρPC=1.0〜1.8g/cm3を得る。図41dは、我々の変更されたモデル、以前の幾何学的モデルとバルクの熱分解炭素の実験データを比較している。この修正モデルからの予測は、実験データと一致している(文献25、39)。
ここで、上付き文字「PC」および「RG」は、それぞれ熱分解炭素およびガラス状カーボン原料を表す。次の式(4)に示すように、正規化された比率Nintはsp2結合の割合の関数fでもある(文献27、32)。
上記式(3)と式(4)とを互いに等しいとすると、熱分解炭素マイクロピラーにおけるsp2結合の割合は96.5%であることが分かった。

として維持され、トポロジーの最適化に基づくd2/d1比は1.14程度であった(文献29)。熱分解後、ポリマーは炭素の形態に変化し、大幅な体積収縮と質量損失を受けた(文献30)。各支柱は、その初期寸法(図48Cおよび48E)の20%〜25%程度まで収縮し、付随するユニットセルサイズは10μm程度からから2μm程度まで縮小した。熱分解後に得られた261〜679nm程度の支柱の直径は、利用可能なほとんどの3Dリソグラフィー技術の解像度の限界(0,0,0)を大幅に下回っている。3DCADモデルおよび走査型電子顕微鏡(SEM)で測定した寸法に基づいて、ナノ格子内の固体材料の体積分率を計算することにより、熱分解炭素ナノ格子の相対密度を17%〜72%と見積もった。図48Eにおける拡大図は、熱分解後にd2/d1が1.14程度に保たれていることを示しており、これは一様な体積収縮を示唆している。図48Fは、集束イオンビーム(FIB)ミリングによってナノ格子から抽出された典型的なサンプルの高解像度透過型電子顕微鏡(HRTEM)画像を示しており、ガラス状/アモルファスの微細構造を示している。我々の以前の研究において、原子モデルと実験測定との組み合わせを使用して、これらの条件下で生成された熱分解炭素の密度を1.40g/cm3程度と見積もっており(文献31)、2000℃未満の熱分解温度の下で製造されたI型のガラス状カーボンの密度と整合している(文献32)。この絶対密度にナノ格子の相対密度を掛けることによって、0.24g/cm3〜1.0g/cm3まで変化するナノ格子の密度を計算した。これは軽量範囲内である。

- 前記特徴の少なくとも部分は、10nm〜2000μmの範囲から選択された1または複数の平均縦方向物理的寸法によって特徴付けされている、請求項1〜55のいずれか一項に記載の複合材料システム。
- 前記構造は弾性によって特徴付けされており、前記構造の前記弾性は決定論的である、請求項1〜56のいずれか一項に記載の複合材料システム。
- 前記構造は、7μm〜14μmから選択された直径および500m/秒〜1100m/秒から選択された速度を有するSiO2粒子からの衝突によって実質的に損傷を受けていない、請求項1〜57のいずれか一項に記載の複合材料システム。
- 前記構造は、曲げ支配モードを有するとして特徴付けされている、請求項1〜58のいずれか一項に記載の複合材料システム。
