Abstract

1393637 Converting; standby system SIEMENS AG 2 Nov 1973 [2 Nov 1972] 51113/73 Headings H2F and H2H A method of converting energy from a D.C. supply 2 to A.C. at 3 comprises converting, at 4, the D.C. to A.C. having a fundamental frequency at least 10 times the required frequency at 3, stepping up the high frequency voltage at 7, to a voltage of the order of that required at 3, rectifying at 8 said stepped up voltage and converting at 9 the rectified voltage to an A.C. of the required frequency. The voltage step-up may thus be achieved by means of a lightweight high frequency transformer 7 so that the system is applicable for use in aircraft. The battery 2 may be 28V, the high frequency produced by the inverter 4 may be between 10-30 kHz. After step-up by transformer 7, rectifier 8 may produce 200 V which is inverted at 9 to give 115 V, 400 Hz at the output 3. The rectified output is preferably equal to the peak value of the required output at 3. Inverter 9 is controlled by pulse patterns from 11 arranged so as to minimize harmonics in the output 3. Voltage regulation is achieved by monitoring by means of a voltage transformer 14 and comparing with a reference, derived from the control pulse pattern generator 11 so as to act on the control pulse generator 6 for the inverter 4. Threephase output is also envisaged.
