Abstract

1309858 Standby supply systems HEEMAF NV 24 Aug 1970 [16 Sept 1969] 40665/70 Heading H2H A standby supply for a single or polyphase system comprises an A.C. machine 12 having an automatic voltage control 12a, the machine acting as an A.C. motor when the main power supply is present and driving a flywheel 9 which, in the event of a main power supply failure, temporarily drives the machine as an auxiliary generator. The main power supply is connected to a conductor 1 and fed to a consumer load connected to a conductor 6 via a choke 3, a transformer secondary winding 4 and switches 2, 5. The A.C. motor drives the flywheel 9 via D.C. machines 10, 11 each provided with a field strength regulator 10a, 11a. In the event of a short circuit occurring in the main supply and before the switch 2 can be opened, the voltage supplied by the machine 12 at the point 14 is less than the machine voltage E and depends on the reactance of the choke 3 and the leakage reactance 15 of the machine. To increase the voltage supplied to the load to the voltage E, the transformer primary 16 is connected in parallel with the choke 3 and induces in the secondary winding 4 the necessary additional voltage. During the mains failure the A.C. machine 12 is driven by a diesel engine 7 or by accumulators. In a modification the choke is formed by the transformer primary winding.
