Abstract

1,138,514. Photographic materials containing dye developers. EASTMAN KODAK CO. March 25, 1966 [March 25, 19651, No. 13221/66. Heading G2C. A light-sensitive or non-light-sensitive sheet material containing a dye developer is prepared by coating a support with a layer of a dispersion of a dye developer in an aq. soln. of a proteinaceous material in the presence of a surface active agent RNHp[(CH 2 ) n COOM], wherein R is alkyl of 8-20 C atoms, or a group R'CO wherein R' is alkyl, alkenyl, alkaryl, alkoxyaryl, or aryloxyalkyl having 11-17 C atoms, M is a watersoluble cation, m is 1 or 2, n is 1 or 2, and p is (2-m). M may be H, alkali-metal, ammonium, or organic amine cation. The protein may be gelatine. The surface active agent may be in the dye developer layer or in a second adjacent layer formed by coating on aq. coating composition (e.g. in gelatine) containing it. This second layer may be a light-sensitive silver halide emulsion. The dye developers of Specification 1, 003,675 may be used, 2-[ p-(2', 5'-dihydroxyphenethyl) phenylazo]-4-n-propoxy-l-naphthol being exemplified.
