Abstract
An implant for transmission of acoustic impulses from an audio electric transducer to the aural nerve comprises a shaped block made of inert flexible material which is an electrical insulator and which incorporates fine conductors to transmit voltage differential to selected pairs of electrodes exposed on the body surface adjacent to the nerve end. Pref. the block is made of silicone rubber and incorporates eight pairs of surface electrodes linked to signal input contacts at the other end of the block. The electrical connectors may be of platinum-iridium (Pt/Ir) with a PTFE coating and mounted in a block of PTFE.
