Abstract

The power supply consists of several transistors (Q1-Q5) each connected in series between the load and one tapping point on the ac transformer secondary via rectifier diodes and smoothing capacitors. The emitters of these transistors are connected together at one end of the load. The bases of the transistors are coupled separately via switches to biasing potentials that allow any one of them to be switched on whilst holding the other off. The output voltage therefore depends on which transistor is on. The bias voltage is made dependent on the output voltage for stabilisation. The advantage lies in producing a stable output voltage efficiently.
