Abstract

A system of closing a cutaneous wound of surgical or accidental origin is claimed, in which removable, self-adhesive, longitudinal strips are fixed one on each side of the wound, the edges of the wound then being brought together while the strips are secured to each other by detachable, transverse links which fasten instantly on contact to the back faces of the longitudinal stips, the links extending across but clear of the wound. Pref. the longitudinal strip material has a self-adhesive facing on the surface applied to the skin, the outer surface of the strip material being coated with 'instant' friction fastening material, e.g. "Velcro" (R.T.M.) which attaches at once when pressed against the transverse links. The longitudinal strips can be cut from a sheet of material to a configuration to follow the line of the wound; the self-adhesive facing is pref. a derivative of gutta-percha. The strips are used as suture-type dressing to close skin wounds.
