Abstract

According to the invention, one of the embodiments of the defoaming method for hydrocarbon processing includes the steps of providing an antifriction additive, wherein the antifriction additive contains poly-alfa-olefin or polymethacrylate, introducing the antifriction additive into a coking process, providing a plurality of carbon nanoparticles, and introducing the carbon nanoparticles into the coking process. Another embodiment of the defoaming method includes the steps of providing a defoamer, wherein the defoamer contains a plurality of carbon nanoparticles and/or an antifriction additive, introducing the defoamer into a coking process, checking one or more coke drums for foaming using a level indicator, and introducing an efficient amount of the defoamer. The methods may be applied, for instance, in coking processes, especially in respect of foaming in coke drums. The advantages of the methods include more efficient foaming inhibition, more efficient reduction or elimination of product contamination, more efficient reduction or elimination of the catalyst poisoning level, increased refinery production rate, debottlenecking the coker, and reduced cost and consequences of applying too much antifoam.
